Kosovo: New power plant best solution for energy crisis

Prishtinë, Nov 29 2005 - A new power plant in Kosovo would be a good solution, not only for Kosovo, which has large reserves of coal, but also for Albania, said World Bank representatives at a conference of European Traders of Energy in Belgrade on Friday. The conference was also attended by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and donors.

Conference attendees said that the region needs an additional 30,5 Gigs of energy in order to fulfil the ever-growing energy demands. No new energy capacities were built in the region over the last 12 years, while the nuclear power plant in Bulgaria, which produces 800 MW/h, will be out of function next year.

Despite large reserves of coal and existence of two power plants Kosovo still faces a deep energetic crisis.
